Reflection on the learning and competencies:

The seminar discusses the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in writing scientific papers. It begins with a brief history of the development of computing and AI, highlighting how AI emerged in military contexts and how the term «artificial intelligence» was introduced in 1956 at a conference at Dartmouth.

Then, various tools and resources are mentioned that facilitate the writing and management of scientific articles using AI. These include Scite, which helps with introduction and reference searching; Writefull, which provides realistic summaries of articles; Consensus, which helps in the introduction of scientific works; Elicit, which offers assistance in scientific writing; ChatGPT and Useblackbox, as methodological assistants; Scribbr, for compliance with APA standards; and other tools such as RTutor which allows you to upload data and receive answers to specific questions; Jane, which helps to select the most suitable journal for the publication of a scientific article AND Paperpal which helps with stylistic and grammatical revision, among others.

I consider that AI helps prepare scientific articles but does not complete them for you in their entirety. As a PhD student, you must search, read the articles, and extract the information that interests you for your research. The AI still does not provide reliable sources, it cannot distinguish between what is correct and incorrect in the information provided, it does not respect intellectual property…

Therefore this seminar has helped me to promote scientific and technological progress in academic contexts since I was unaware of most of the tools mentioned such as: Writefull, Consensus, Elicit, Useblackbox, Rtutor, Jane… And now that I am aware of them of its existence maybe I make use of it in the future.
